蒋彝，字仲雅，又字重哑。生于江西九江书香门第，自幼从父亲习书画，深得东方艺术精神之根基。青年时期，入东南大学习化学，投笔从戎赴北伐，仕官三县求变革，后痛心政治腐败，辞官乘桴赴英伦。 作为饮誉国际的散文家、画家、诗人和书法家，蒋彝旅居英美凡四十余载。这位翩翩独行的中国君子，以笔名“哑行者”出版了隽永的系列画记，文画互映、诗书交融，用一双温柔的“中国之眼”关注泰西的风土人情，畅销于西方数十年。他先后任教于英国伦敦大学东方学院、美国哥伦比亚大学、哈佛大学等世界一流学府，堪称“中国文化的国际使者”。 1975年，蒋彝回到阔别四十二年的祖国，与妻女团聚。1977年，逝于北京，归葬庐山脚下马迥岭公墓，“树高千丈，叶落归根”。
